Susan has been a part of the Character First! community outreach initiative in the Florida Panhandle since it began in 2001. To date, she has participated in training more than 4,000 teachers, business leaders, and community activists in how to implement Character First!. In addition to her responsibilities as Chief Operating Officer for Melvin Engineering which includes Human Resources, her focus with the Character Council of Florida continues to be training, marketing and special events. Her background includes historic restoration and preservation and small business ownership. She and her husband, Harold, enjoy boating and day-tripping through the Florida Panhandle. Grandsons, Javvie and Nathan give Susan the spark in her eyes!
