Why would a leader want to conduct an Organizational Character Assessment?
By M Sanders
The purpose of the Organizational Character Assessment is to obtain the truth. While the truth sometimes hurts, to truly effect change you must know the true nature of the situation - from the perspective of your staff. A well-designed Organizational Character Assessment can put your leadership’s finger on the pulse of your people’s heart and attitude (i.e. character).
How would your organization respond to these statements (from “Seldom/Never” to “Always”)?
- We use a formal method to gather employee opinions and to determine their well-being.
- To measure our progress, we compare results from year-to-year and benchmark against other organizations, including several award-winning organizations.
- We develop and implement action plans based on strengths and gaps identified in our workforce assessments.
- We measure the effectiveness of programs and policies we have put in place.
- We strive to ensure that our employees know, understand and feel committed to our organization’s mission.
- We work to maintain the highest level of ethical standards within our organization.
- We strive to develop healthy management/employee relationships by learning how our employees view the management team.
- We look for opportunities to improve the way we hire, promote, and reward employees.
- We endeavor to identify and overcome barriers to communication, teamwork, and conflict resolution.
- Since the relationship between employee and supervisor has the greatest impact on employee retention, we measure our managerial and communication effectiveness.
- Measure
