Why Is Generosity Important?
![]() |
Builds People
When a generous person wisely addresses the recipient's needs, the recipient is motivated to greater growth and development.
Builds Friendships
The relationships that develop between givers and recipients make the difference between a demeaning handout and a motivating investment. Each relationship built allows for more effective generosity in the future and creates the possibility for recipients to spread generosity to others.
Brings Satisfaction
Giving brings the satisfaction of benefiting another life and of seeing that life benefit other lives.
Motivates Efficient Management
The habits of generosity allow a person to make the best use of resources in the ordinary business of life as well as in charitable efforts.
Generous Leadership
![]() |
Leaders can demonstrate generosity by making sure team members have the equipment and materials necessary to do their jobs well. They should carefully listen to coworkers, suppliers, and customers in order to understand practical processes and help everyone work together.
- Identify needs within your organization. Distinguish between needs and wants, and recognize the little things that can make a big difference.
- View the job from your coworkers' perspectives. Whenever possible, take steps to save your coworkers time and frustration.
- Manage your organization's resources wisely by asking yourself, "Will this purchase improve quality or quantity enough to justify the cost?" and, "How will it help us reach our bigger goals?"
- Don't spend money just because you have it. Carefully consider your options.

Managing Money

Teach your children early about budgeting their money.
Talk about the amounts and percentages your children should budget for saving, spending, and giving. Help them divide their allowance or other income based on what is most important.
If your children do not have regular income, plan how they should use their money when they receive gifts or payment for work.
